Humber College - established fifty five years ago - is located in the city of Toronto. In its two main campuses, it offers diverse programs for all the local and international students.
International students
Humber College allows students to achieve a diploma in various fields such as Accounting, Acting for Film and TV, Baking, Hearing Instruments, Interior Decorating, General Arts and Science, Paralegal Education, Social Service, Baking and Pastry Arts Management.
If you wish to become a TV star so Humber College is open to provide you with the upper-class education in acting, by instructing you through the courses of improvisation, movement, voice and teach you how write scripts and analyze them, together with history of film, TV and radio, skills and techniques of acting on camera and also the business of acting. Humber College campuses are equipped with screens, simulators for students to practice their acting and voice-over skills. After achieving the diploma in Acting for Film and TV from Humber College, you will be able to work not only in the sphere of television and films, but also in virtual reality, participate in dubbing and voice-over of games, narrations, cartoons and commercials. Another unique diploma program offered by Humber College is Comedy, which is aimed at developing skills at writing and performing in the genre of comedy successfully. Together with learning how to create texts which would make everyone laugh, Humber College teaches the students the commercial side of their craft, business and managerial skills to know how to promote their talent. Each week students perform their comedy shows on stage as well as at the end of the year.
Humber University also offers international students another diploma program, which is absolutely different from the ones described above and this is the Funeral Director class. The program is the only one in Ontario to offer education on funeral service in the English language. During this diploma program of Humber College, a student learns how to embalm in the laboratory environment, and how to deal with the emotions of the bereaved clients, who try to cope with their grief after their loved one died. To help people in difficult situations a student is taught the following courses: ethics, grief issues, jurisprudence and different types of vascular embalming and cosmetology. Before students can obtain a license to work, they need to do a work placement which lasts for a year. During the third semester students also need to work full-time in a funeral home to learn through practice. Humber College often assists students in the process of searching for the workplace.
Humber College offers students various certificate programs such as: Addictions and Mental Health, Copywriting and Advertising, Broadcast TV, Business Administration, Carpentry, Culinary Skills, Design Foundation, Electromechanical Engineering Technology and a lot more.
As for Electrical Techniques, the certificate program is aimed at acquiring the basics of the trade, by obtaining as much practice as possible. After achieving the certificate of Humber College, a student is ready to work and do apprenticeship programs in the spheres of automation, power generation and even green energy.
Obtaining the Ontario College Certificate in Humber College is also possible on the program of Culinary skills, which lasts for an academic year. At the end of the year, students are to complete work placement which lasts for seven weeks. During the program studies learn the basics of hospitality math concepts, career management, arts of baking and pastry, practice in butchery, study nutrition and college reading and writing skills. Every year Humber College offers students an opportunity to study abroad which usually lasts for two weeks, and gives students an unforgettable experience. After achieving the certificate in Culinary Skills in Humber College, you may continue your studies in the Chef School in George Brown College, which offers certificate, diploma and degree programs in the spheres related to culinary arts, baking and culinary management.
Humber College also offers its students to obtain Honours Degree of Bachelor’s of Creative Advertising which lasts for four academic years. If you’re creative, love drawing, writing, playing music and dancing, this means you can make your hobbies your profession studying Creative Advertising in Humber College. Perfect combination of theoretical and practical courses will help you to obtain all the necessary knowledge to become an account coordinator, copywriter and art director, by knowing all about how best advertising campaigns are conducted, how to work in a team of most creative professionals and effectively collaborate with each other. As today the number of people who are suffering from the mental health problems is constantly growing, and as a consequence, another problem arises - the one of addiction. So the Honours Degree program of Bachelor of Social Science in Addictions and Mental health offered by Humber College is also growing extremely popular. During the four years period, a student will study such courses as psychology, sociology, ethics, human rights, social welfare, group counseling, neurophysiology of addiction and even family counseling. During the third year of studies students need to do 420 hours of work full-time during the summer period and part-time during the fall and winter periods. Upon graduation, you will be able to counsel groups and individual clients on the questions connected with addiction, their mental health and self-care, working as crisis counselors, case managers, community support workers, having all the necessary cognitive, critical, management and analytical skills to support people.
In Humber College you may also achieve an Advanced Diploma in the following programs: Journalism, Graphic Design, Massage Therapy, Public Relations, Sport Management, Sustainable Energy, Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, Civil Engineering Technology, Child and Youth Care etc.
Achieving the Advanced Diploma in 3D Animation will take you three years, upon which you will be ready to work in the sphere of animation in the TV and commercial industries, apply your skills in character animation, technical directing and creating video games. Humber College has a special lab for the students of media and creative arts for them to practice their skills using finest technical equipment. Humber College often offers different programs of exchange and collaborations with a number of companies, which allows students to participate in the projects which will enhance their portfolio and skills.
International students are to pay tuition fees if they wish to study in Humber College. For example, around $11000 for two semesters of studying 3D modeling and visual effects programs. Accommodation
International students who wish to study in Humber College have several housing options. The first one is the Canadian Homestay program, which allows students to live with Canadian families in their homes, being served meals three times a day, which basically imitates a real home environment. Homestay program will cost from $7200 to about $11000.
Another option is to live in the house of residence called CampusOne in the centre of Toronto. There are arts, yoga, dance, fitness studios in the building, video games and ping-pong lounges, study rooms and even a fireplace lounge. Compared to the rental flats, CampusOne has a number of advantages such as fully furnished rooms, community events, a number of lounge and athletics facilities, security and support from the staff. There are several room options: if you would prefer more privacy, you can choose to live in a studio with a private bedroom, a bathroom and a common room just for you. If you wish to live with one neighbor there are two bedroom suites with a shared kitchen with an oven, microwave and fridge and a shared bathroom. There are also five bedroom suites which can comprise two bathrooms or three bathrooms, with a shared common room.
There is also a Parkside residence where all students of Humber College can live during their studies. There you may also choose among private studio, two bedroom and penthouse options. The cost of living in a shared bedroom with a shared bathroom will begin from $1260 for a person. On the whole, living in the residence will cost an international student from nine to twelve thousand dollars per academic year and if they wish to live in a rental flat, the cost may vary from five thousand dollar to nine thousand.
