University of Toronto Mississauga or shortly U of T Mississauga was established in 1967 in Mississauga, in the province of Ontario, as Erindale College, a campus of the University of Toronto. Later the University of Toronto opened two more campuses, one being in Downtown Toronto and the other in Scarborough. Currently the University offers 155 academic programs in ninety five different areas from Computer Science and Criminology to History and Psychology. University of Toronto Mississauga collaborates with Sheridan College, with one of its campuses in Mississauga, so students have a chance to obtain credentials from both of the educational establishments. There are several distinguishing features of University of Toronto Mississauga, one of them being palaeomagnetism labs, where the rocks brought from Apollo mission were researched back in seventies and where currently students and researchers conduct their own studies. Moreover, students of the University created their own radio, which broadcast twenty four hours a day. Students also created their own newspaper, called the Medium, where they cover recent events or problems they’re concerned about, practicing their skills in journalism and creative writing. There are many facilities on campus created for students socialization and interaction with each other: a number of dining halls, cafes, meeting places, a student centre and Starbucks located right in the library. Thus the University  does everything possible for students not only to enrich their academic knowledge, but pursue various extracurricular activities, contributing to developing their soft skills.

 

Programs in University of Toronto 

There are various programs offered by University of Toronto Mississauga on the undergraduate level. For example, in the Department of English and Drama, students can choose among the programs of English, Canadian Studies, Performance and Theatre and Theatre and Drama Studies. For example, the program of Theatre and Drama Studies is offered in collaboration with Sheridan College, which is a Specialist Honours program. During the program, students study twelve courses in Sheridan College, including different acting techniques, camera work and voice classes, while at the University of Toronto Mississauga students study the courses on theatre, film, dramaturgy and history of drama. Only the students who successfully won the audition are offered to study the program. It’s very beneficial for students, that there is a students’ theater which was made together with Sheridan College, where they can practice their skills. During the studies at the department of English and Drama at University of Toronto Mississauga, students may choose a minor in Creative Writing which will be a great supplement to their studies. During the Creative Writing classes and lectures, students study different writing techniques and try themselves in writing a number of various genres. After achieving the foundational knowledge of Creative Writing at University of Toronto Mississauga, they may specialize in playwriting, editing or even writing for interactive media. If you happen to deepen your knowledge on Drama and Theatre Studies, you may go for the Master’s degree offered by the University of Guelph. There you will learn such courses as Historiographies of Canadian Theatre Research, Critical Media Literacy, English Theatre and National Security, Drama and Canadian Identity, Theatrical Radicalism, Theorizing Shakespearean adaptations and a number of others. The program offered by the University of Guelph lasts for one academic year, but under some conditions students are allowed to take five semesters to meet all the requirements for obtaining a Master’s degree.

The Department of Visual Studies at the University offers the programs of Art and Art History, Cinema Studies, Visual Culture and Communication.

The Department of Language Studies at University of Toronto Mississauga offers the programs of Language Teaching and Learning, Italian, Linguistics, French, Education Studies and French and Italian. For example, a Language Teaching and Learning program can be studied as a major program in Teaching and Learning French, Italian or as a specialist program in French and Italian together. As students study the theory and practice of language teaching and different methods of how to do it effectively, after graduation from University of Toronto Mississauga they can work as language teachers in schools from Kindergarten to the grade twelve and in educational centres for adults. The department of Anthropology at University of Toronto Mississauga offers the programs of Anthropology and Forensic Science, with specializations in Biology, Chemistry, Psychology or Anthropology.

The Department of Historical Studies offers the major and minor programs in Classical Civilizations, Diaspora and Transnational, History, History of Religions, Women and Gender Studies and minor programs in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and South Asian Civilizations.

On the graduate level University of Toronto Mississauga offers the following Master programs: Biotechnology, Management of Innovation, Forensic Accounting, Management and Professional Accounting, Biomedical Communications, Sustainability Management and Urban Innovation. The last program, for instance, lasts for twelve months and it was devised for the students, who wish to resolve urban and economic development issues. As the world becomes rapidly urbanized, University of Toronto Mississauga understands that it’s important to teach a new generation of specialists who will promote innovative and sustainable methods in structuring and improving cities. During the Master’s program, all students will need to complete a summer internship, where they will be able to implement the theoretical knowledge gained at University of Toronto Mississauga in practice.

The students who have graduated with a Bachelor degree in Science, Health Sciences, Engineering or Informational Technology can go for the Master of Management of Innovation. The program lasts for twelve months, during which students study big data analysis, technology management, marketing and finance among a number of other courses.

Accommodation

It’s important for University administration to provide students with secure and safe accommodation, which would become an aid to their academic achievements. Future Prospects

Graduation from University of Toronto Mississauga will bring a lot of opportunities to international students. Foreign citizens who have graduated from University of Toronto Mississauga, having completed a full-time program which lasted at least two years, can apply for the post-graduation work permit if they meet a number of other criteria. This type of visa will allow international graduates to work in Canada for up to three years, after which they can apply for Express Entry, which is granted to the ones who have work experience in Canada.
