Who is Minor?
Each province and territory has their age of the majority. The age of majority is 18 in six provinces: Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. The age of majority is 19 in four provinces and the three territories: British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, and Yukon.
What is Custodian Declaration?
International students need to apply for a study permit if they want to study in Canada. Students under mature age of particular province must submit a notarized custodian declaration file along with all the study permit application documents. The ‘notarized ‘means the documents and signatures must be certified by a notary. The custodian declaration file contains two pages. The first page must be signed by parents of the legal guardian of the child in the original or current resident country. The second page must be signed by the custodian in Canada. Besides, if minor children need to extend their study permit inside Canada, the custodian declaration file also needs to attach with their application.
Who is a Custodian in Canada?
A custodian has a very important role during the minor child stay in Canada. They need to provide necessary assist when minor need. Not all the adult can be a custodian in Canada. As required by immigration law, a custodian must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada over age 19 years old. If the custodian will not live with the minor children at the same location, they must reside within a reasonable distance of the student’s intended residence and school. The school also clearly requires that minor international students are required to have a custodian who makes sure that students get enough care and necessary support when needed. And some schools require to provide custodian documents even minor students will be living with a parent.
