This public and co-educational school was established in 1927 in the city of Richmond, in the province of British Columbia. It has undergone many changes since then, and now more than 1200 students obtain secondary education at Richmond Secondary School. Today, Richmond Secondary School offers not only academic programs to students but also a number of athletic opportunities. Richmond Secondary School students participate in basketball, soccer, golf, and swimming competitions, often making the podium. It’s notable that Richmond Secondary School is the only school in the city that offers the IB program.

Programs

Richmond School has many programs available to international students who wish to obtain a top-quality Canadian school education. International students can take the same secondary and elementary academic programs as domestic students to achieve a Canadian high school diploma. The fee for the academic program at Richmond  School that lasts for ten months is CAD 28,100, with health insurance, homestay, and custodianship included. The fee for an academic year without a custodianship is a thousand dollars less. Richmond  School offers various extracurricular activities to students from grade eight so that they can start to decide what they have a passion for and what career they want to pursue in the future. One of the programs is modern languages. Students at Richmond Secondary School can take classes in French, Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish. Richmond School allows students to take any of the languages as an IB course. For example, the IB Mandarin course lasts for two years, and it was devised for those who are already highly proficient in the language. Students will further hone their skills in every aspect of the language, learn cultural peculiarities and study literary texts. As the course is taught entirely in Mandarin, Richmond School students are supposed to pass the IB Mandarin exams with flying colors.

Richmond School offers a program of Technology Education which aims at teaching students the intricacies of the technological world and critical thinking skills. For instance, students at Richmond Secondary School who study in grade eight can take the initial stage of the course, which will focus on carpentry, food and nutrition, and textiles. During the carpentry course at Richmond School, students will gain hands-on experience in working with wood and other materials. During the textile course, students learn how to use sewing machines and other equipment. Further, in grades nine to twelve, students can take a course of Automative Technology, studying how automobiles function, their fuel, ignition, and lubricating systems, and how to work in an automative shop safely. Eleven and twelve graders at Richmond Secondary School can also study Woodwork, Metalwork, Drafting and Computer Aided Design, Engineering and Robotics, Graphics and Photography. Richmond School's Engineering and Robotics programs are available to students who want to study engineering and technology at one of Canada's colleges or universities. For example, the University of Richmond offers a Pre-Engineering program during which they can acquire skills in math, science, logic and critical thinking needed to continue their education in a dual-degree program with Columbia University or obtain a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Richmond. That’s how the Richmond School Technology Education program can give a student a solid foundation of knowledge for further university studies.

Another program provided by Richmond School is Career Life Education, which gives students four credits towards graduation. Richmond School gives students a choice between taking the program in the online or offline mode. During the program, students learn about different working paths, financial planning, and in what ways their career can have an impact on their personal life and health. One of the unique programs available to Richmond Secondary School students is Digital Literacy and Computational Thinking. The program aims at studying computer software and hardware, code development, and online safety. Students at Richmond Secondary School who enjoy helping other people and find the job of a tutor captivating can take the program of Peer Tutoring. The program aims at teaching eleventh and twelfth grade students how to be an effective tutor who knows different learning styles and techniques, planning and instructional strategies, and leadership skills. This program at Richmond Secondary School provides students with hands-on experience in tutoring, that's why they are assigned to deliver tutoring services to other students, help teachers during the classes, and participate in various community activities. Another three-week summer program at Richmond School combines English classes with trips and excursions to the Vancouver Aquarium, Granville Island, Adventure and Peace Arch Park, Burnaby Heritage Village, and other Vancouver and Richmond locations. The fee for the program at Richmond Secondary School is around CAD 2355 for three weeks, tuition and health insurance included. A three-week homestay will cost CAD 1,100 plus an additional CAD 100 for custodianship. Richmond School offers professional learning programs for international students.
