Programs in Niagara Catholic District School Board
Niagara Catholic District School Board is committed to providing a wide range of educational programs that cater to the diverse needs of their students. From elementary to secondary school levels, Niagara Catholic offers a variety of programs that are designed to nurture students' spiritual, academic, and social growth. Their curriculum is rooted in a Catholic perspective and is delivered by highly qualified and dedicated teachers. With a focus on excellence in education and a passion for promoting students' success, Niagara Catholic District School Board offers a range of programs that ensure that all students can reach their full potential. Niagara Catholic's Kindergarten Program provides a stimulating environment for young learners to develop and grow together in faith. The program encourages children to explore and discover the joy of learning through play and inquiry-based activities, within a safe, nurturing, and inclusive setting.
The school recognizes that parents are essential partners in Catholic education, and together with the staff and parish priests, they form a team dedicated to supporting the children's holistic development in mind, body, and spirit. The school believes that the face of God can be found in all people and that children can discover traces of God in themselves and the world around them. The Kindergarten program is designed to instill Catholic faith and values in the children's daily lives. For the purpose of assisting kids in recognizing God as the Father and Creator as well as Jesus as their friend, the curriculum incorporates prayer, biblical teachings, and an examination of church symbols, rituals, customs, and seasons. In order to help kids discover God in everything, the curriculum also poses the daily guiding question, "Where is God?"
Niagara Catholic District School Board ensures that Catholic faith and values remain embedded throughout the Primary Grades, which include Grade 1-3. Moving from Kindergarten to Grade 1 is a crucial transition for children, and the school's teachers work closely with families to ensure a seamless transition.
The school's focus in the Primary Grades remains on providing a Christ-centred environment that addresses children's spiritual, emotional, academic, social, and physical needs. As parents are a child's first and most consistent teacher, they play an important role in supporting their child's education. Positive parental involvement at home can influence a child's success at school, and to prepare children for the transition from one grade to the next, parents can emphasize the positive, reassure their child, read to their child regularly, encourage friendships, and encourage them to share their concerns.
Niagara Catholic's Junior Division spans from Grades 4 to 6 and these students go through physical, emotional, and social changes that can impact their learning. To keep students engaged, Niagara Catholic offers opportunities like Heritage and Science Fairs, chess tournaments, and other events catered to emerging interests. In the Intermediate Division, students in Grades 7 and 8 have the chance to share their skills and talents not only with their school community but also with their community partners. This prepares them for the Sacrament of Confirmation and their transition into high school. Niagara Catholic facilitates regular contact between Grade 7 and 8 students and their future Catholic secondary schools to make the transition a smooth and positive experience.
Activities that Niagara Catholic District School Board Grade 8 students can participate in include attending their future Catholic high school on Grade 8 Day, sporting events, plays, concerts, musicals, and Secondary School Open House. Also, Intermediate students can continue to take part in activities like the annual Speak Out! public speaking competition, chess competitions, heritage and science fairs, and robotics courses. Entering high school marks the beginning of the end of a student's formal education. Niagara Catholic District School Board graduates emerge as young adults ready to take on their next journey, whether it is an apprenticeship, college, university, or the workforce. All students are welcome to attend Niagara Catholic secondary schools, and non-Catholic students are expected to participate in the faith life of their school.
Niagara Catholic District School Board graduates are well-rounded individuals who have strong Catholic beliefs, effective communication skills, and the ability to reflect, create, and think critically. They are also independent, responsible, lifelong learners, team players, loving parents, and law-abiding citizens. Students have the opportunity to opt out of this requirement by getting in touch with their secondary school. Two credits out of a total of 30 must be fulfilled via eLearning courses.

Students learn to be brave as they discover new skills and passions through a range of activities, such as athletics, the arts, technology, and social justice efforts, at Niagara's Catholic secondary schools. The school staff encourage students to strive for their personal best, while also fostering a strong sense of community and church involvement to support their development as young adults.
As part of their education, students in Grades 9 and 12 participate in retreats, as well as an annual pilgrimage in October. The French Immersion Program at Niagara Catholic provides students with a positive and lifelong learning experience. The goal of this program is to develop functionally bilingual students by teaching most of the curriculum in French. By studying a second language, students gain a working knowledge of both of Canada’s official languages, develop an appreciation for French culture, and strengthen all other areas of learning.
The Special Education Department at Niagara Catholic District School Board works collaboratively with school staff, support staff, and the Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) to implement effective instructional and assessment strategies, as well as assistive technology, in all elementary and secondary schools. The district is also committed to supporting First Nation, Métis, and Inuit students by developing effective strategies and learning opportunities that are responsive, flexible, and accessible to improve student achievement and well-being, closing the gap in student achievement in the areas of literacy and numeracy, and increasing retention and graduation rates to support postsecondary education or workforce entry.
