It’s well known that renting a flat is one of the most prominent expenditure when studying abroad. The city of Vancouver only confirms it. Renting costs in this city are estimated to be one of the highest in the world. For example, a one-bedroom flat without furnishings will cost a student around CAD 2,500 per month. A lot of students opt for shared accommodation and decide to rent a flat with a friend. They may as well participate in a homestay program. It was started to offer foreign students an opportunity to live with a Canadian family in a homely atmosphere and, together with it, get used to speaking English on a daily basis. Every student who participates in the program is provided with a private bedroom, a desk, and all the other facilities needed for comfortable living and studying. Students will have access to bathrooms, laundry, a kitchen, and they'll be served three meals a day. In a nutshell, they become a part of a host family. Some international students stay friends with their host families long after graduation and pay visits to each other’s homes. The cost of a homestay in Vancouver is somewhere around CAD 1,000.

Vancouver Community College doesn’t have its own hall of residence for students. But it suggests students consider living in the residences, where students from different Vancouver universities and colleges reside. One of them is called GEC, and its buildings are located in different parts of the city, so students can choose the one that is closest to their college campus.

Rooms there are fully furnished, with washers, dryers, and kitchenettes inside every suite. Every month, GEC hosts a variety of social events and contests where residents can unwind and get to know one another. As for the prices, a shared bedroom will cost a student CAD 1,200 per month, while a private bedroom will be around CAD 1,600.
