The Public College of Applied Arts and Technology or simply Georgian College was established in Ontario more than 50 years ago. In its seven campuses more that thirteen thousands students obtain post-secondary education on diverse programs from Business Administration to Environmental Studies. The largest campus of Georgian College is located in the city of Barrie on the shore of Kempenfelt Bay. 

Programs 

College offers more than one hundred full-time programs which will make an international student one step closer to getting a work-permit in Canada. One of the options for an international student can become a two year lasting diploma program in Advertising and Marketing Communications, which will give students an opportunity to work in real, public relations, advertising and production fields after graduation from Georgian College. The program comprises sixteen program courses, including advertising design, marketing, pitching the campaign, and a field placement. The program will cost an international student around $7,000 for a year. College offers a Certificate program in Bookkeeping which lasts for a year during which students will be provided with the extensive knowledge on bookkeeping, accounts, payroll positions in business. The program of Georgian College presupposed studying nine program courses and two communications courses, including payroll administration, financial accounting, microcomputer applications, mathematics of finance, entrepreneurship on various stages and a number of others. This certificate program of Georgian College also costs around $7000 for the foreign students. 

If you happen to be interested in a completely different sphere, which is Aviation, then Georgian College also has something to offer to you and it's an Aviation Management program upon completion of which you will be awarded with an Advanced Diploma. On top of many benefits of the program, it is op-ed which means that you will gain hands-on experience in the studied sphere which is of paramount importance to actually grasp the theoretical knowledge. The program of Georgian College helps students to develop not only the skills in aviation, airline and flight systems, aviation safety and navigation but also in management, marketing, HR and business processes of the aviation sphere. During the three years of studies, a student learns thirty two program courses, with a number of communications and general education courses and, most importantly, three co-op work terms. All the knowledge and experience gained in Georgian College allow students to successfully pass the exam for the Aeronautical Radio Operator License. International students who study on the program of Georgian College and decide to work in the sphere after graduation, may need to get a special Transport Canada security clearance to obtain a work permit or participate in the co-op program. Studying Aviation Management in Georgian College will cost an intonation student a little bit more than $7,000 per an academic year.

After two years of studies, you will be added with a Diploma and learn how to develop and enhance a child's skills from the very birth to teenage hood. The program of Georgian College not only teaches how to encourage their academic studies, but also how to support emotional, psychological and social well-being of a child ensuring their normal development. The students of Georgian College learn through working with families, participating in a number of community centres, early learning centres and finding new ways of helping children by being supportive, responsive and open-minded caregivers. During the first semester students of Georgian College study Supporting Play Experiences, Music and Movement, Experiences in Language Arts, Child Development and many more fascinating courses are awaiting for them in the next three semesters.The year of studies also costs around $7000 for international students in Georgian College. To further your study in the field, you can go to Seneca College and achieve Honours Bachelor of Child Development. The four-year program will give you all the necessary knowledge to work as an early interventionist, family support worker, early literacy specialist, young parent support worker and child and youth counsellor. 

Among conventional programs Georgian College provides studies of Graphic Design which lasts for two years. The program of Georgian College includes twenty core courses and three general education courses. So during the first semester students learn such disciplines as Typography, Print Production and digital page layout and a number of others. The diploma achieved upon graduation from Georgian College will allow you to work in the sphere of graphic design under the supervision of senior colleges or you may go a bit further and achieve Bachelor’s of Design in Graphic Design in the Vancouver University. The program will give you extensive knowledge on broadcast design, illustration, animation, web design to work in the related spheres.

For the ones who already have a diploma or a degree in the same sphere, there is a graduate program of Gerontology and Palliative Care offered by Georgian College. The program teaches students how to maintain and support the mental, emotional, physical health of the senior citizens and how to prevent possible future illnesses, together with working with the families of the elderly. Georgian College provides students with a wide range of studies which will help them to enhance people’s experience of living and dying. Students study communication, spirituality, law and ethics and try their knowledge in the labs and in practice as the graduate program of Georgian College presupposes Clinical Work Placement. Among the elven courses students learn are: Legal and Ethical Issues, Gerontology, Nursing skills, comfort measures and other useful disciplines on efficient practice of palliative care. The program will cost an international student of Georgian College $7,725 for an academic year. 

Georgian College offers among other full-time Bachelor’s programs Honours Bachelor’s of Police Studies which lasts for four years. If your lifelong dream was to prevent crimes and restore justice in your community, then the program will be your perfect choice. The studies include learning twenty seven core courses and one co-op term. For example, students of Georgian College studying the program will learn Canadian Criminal Justice, Community Policing, Youth Crime and Justice, Police ePowers in Canada and also Human Kinetics, Strategic Communications, Mediation and Dispute Resolution and Models and Theories of Leadership. The cost for the international students is around $8,500 for a year of studying Police Studies. 

One more Honours Bachelor offered by Georgian College is Interior Design. To be selected for this program you need to have a digital portfolio with the works you have done as the process of selection is quite stringent for this program of Georgian College. During the studies you will learn such disciplines as Interior Design on different stages, the theory of design, design communications, building technologies and a number of others. The cost of the program is also $8575 per year for non-Canadian citizens. 

Accommodation

Georgian College offers students a number of housing options including homestay. One of the most popular options among international students though is on campus residence. There are three different campuses for the residence of students of Georgian College. The first one is Barrie which has eight floors and overlooks Little Lake. Each student’s bedroom of the dormitory is equipped with a double size bed and a desk, WiFI and a phone. There is a kitchenette and bathroom shared by two students and the kitchen, laundry facilities and lounges are also shared. In another four-story building live around 190 students who live in four bedroom suites. In each suite there is a shared kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower and a toilet and also a shared living room. The smallest hall of residence of Georgian College is Owen Sound where only 61 students reside in a kind of townhouse. There is a shared kitchen, living room and laundry facilities on the first floor,  two bedrooms with a bathroom on the second floor and two more bedrooms on the third one together with a utility closet and a storage. Each bedroom is equipped with an oversize bed, a desk, a dresser and a closet. A student may also choose to live outside of campus, renting an apartment on their own or with friends. Still, living in a hall of residence helps you to avoid worrying about paying bills, stringent requirements of landlords or a neighbor not paying their part of the rent.  

Future Prospects 

The international graduates of Georgian College have many opportunities in front of them: the first one is coming back to your country with lots of professional skills under their belt which they would successfully implement in practice. Another opportunity for international graduates is to stay in Ontario or anywhere else in Canada getting a post-graduate work-permit if you fit all the requirements. The third option is to further your education in Georgian College or in some other educational establishment in Canada, if you wish to gain more knowledge on their desired subject and do more research on it.
