Regina Catholic School Division, Regina Catholic Schools, or simply RCSD, is the school district with headquarters in the city of Regina, the capital of the province of Saskatchewan. The population of the city is more than 215 thousand people, according to the 2016 census. Besides Regina Catholic Schools, there is the Regina Public School Board that serves the city, with forty-five elementary and nine high schools. Unlike the Regina Public School Board, the Regina Catholic Schools are Roman Catholic and the division consists of twenty-five elementary and four high schools, with more than ten thousand students overall.
Programs
As the school division is Catholic, it means that one of its main aims is to bring up faithful citizens who have high academic achievements and have the advanced skills and knowledge important for twenty-first century citizens. This program lasts for three years and is held at the Newham campus of Seneca College. Students of Seneca College also learn such software programs as AutoCAD and Civil 3D, but with the help of Regina Catholic Schools, you will already know the basics of these programs. Seneca College students who study the program of Civil Engineering Technology may also take a paid co-op program, working full-time between two academic terms.
High school students enrolled in one of Regina Catholic Schools are eligible to participate in the Advanced Placement program. It allows students to earn university credits while still in one of the high schools of Regina Catholic Schools by passing the Advanced Placement exams. This program can be quite difficult, but as the name implies, it can award a student with advanced placement to the university if the exam results are sufficient. There are the following Advanced Placement courses available: Literature and Composition, 2D art and Design or Drawing, Calculus, Psychology and Computer Science. The AP course in Computer Science is delivered in the online mode by the Regina Catholic Schools.
High school students can take the program in Creative Writing, completion of which will award a student with one credit. Students learn how to express their thoughts in different genres and for different audiences. Trying to find their own unique style, they practice writing poetry, short fiction, and non-fiction. By the way, if a student takes the course of Advanced Placement in English, then they are required to take the course of Creative Writing as well. The program, which is quite similar to it, is English Language Arts. Here, students also acquire writing skills, but together with developing their listening, reading, and elocution skills.
As for the extra-curricular activities offered by the Regina Catholic Schools, students can participate in badminton, hockey, basketball, and volleyball teams. Moreover, they have a chance to join drama, multicultural, IT, and book clubs.
