To be awarded the "Dogwood Diploma” at Columbia Academy students must successfully fulfill the provincial graduation requirements in BC province, which requires a minimum of 80 credits. A minimum of 16 of these credits, including Language Arts 12 and Professional Life Connections, must be completed at the Grade 12 level. Additionally, students must complete at least 28 elective course credits and, effective July 1, 2023, at least 4 credits with an Indigenous-focus.
The remaining 52 credits must be completed by studying the following subjects: Science, Physical and Health Education, Career-Life Education, Career-Life Links, and Science or (12 credits), Social Studies (10 credits), Social Studies 11 or (12 credits), Math (10 credits), Math 11 or (12 credits), Language Arts (10 credits), and the required 12 (12 credits total), as well as Arts Education (10 credits), Arts Programs or 12, or Applied Design, Skills and Technology (10 credits), or 12 (4 credits total).
Furthermore, Columbia Academy students must also pass three graduation assessments, including the Grade 10 Numeracy Assessment, introduced in 2018, the Grade 10 Literacy Assessment, introduced in 2019/20, and the upcoming Grade 12 Literacy Assessment, to be introduced in 2021/22. At Columbia Academy, students receive a rigorous education that prepares them for success in all their academic endeavors.
Columbia Academy offers a Middle School program that is specifically designed for grade 8 and 9 students seeking a high-quality education. The program follows the BC Ministry of Education curriculum, ensuring that students receive a rigorous education that meets the highest academic standards.
