Admission Requirements
There are several steps to complete before a minor child can be accepted as an international student to the EMSB.
- Applicants need to prepare the following documents: a certified copy of the student’s birth certificate, the student’s most recent report card, current photos of the student, and all the necessary contact information. All documents should be translated into English or French if required. The submitted documents must be in PDF or JPEG format and less than 5 MB in size for each document.
- Parents and students ought to read the Outlines of the English Montreal School Board International Youth Student Program and Admission Fees.
- Parents should select their first, second and third choice of school, according to the interests of a prospective student. The EMSB takes into consideration the applicant’s request for a particular school, but the final decision is determined by the school board.
- Students and parents must sign the Legal International Student Agreement.
- They ought to create an online account and submit all the documents mentioned above. Once applicants create an account, they have ten days to complete and submit it.
- Parents need to pay the non-refundable application fee of 250 CAD.
- Once international students are accepted, the English Montreal School Board sends them two Letters of Acceptance.
- When applicants receive Letters of Acceptance, they should apply for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) and a study permit. This process may take up to six to twenty weeks to complete.
- Once international students arrive in Montreal, they need to finalize their application. The parents or appointed guardian of the minor student must visit the English Montreal School Board in person to apply for a Certificate of English Eligibility. They ought to provide the following documents: CAQ, the study permit, the original birth certificate of the student showing both parents’ names, and the birth certificate translated into English or French.
