Family members undergo careful inspection before being allowed to host foreign citizens. Moreover, all students are matched with their families so that they feel comfortable while living with each other. Still, sometimes they may encounter some problems, and if they happen to be irreconcilable, students can ask to change a family. It happens rarely, and most of the time, students and their host families become friends and keep communicating years after students’ graduation from an educational institution. Usually, homestay agencies charge around CAD 1000 per month. Additional payments can be demanded if a student has special food preferences or wants a transfer from or to the airport.

Of course, international students can also rent an apartment alone or with their college friends. An average one-bedroom in Vancouver will cost an international student around CAD 2,500, while a two-bedroom will cost a thousand dollars more. The city is one of the most expensive in terms of rental prices, not only in the country but in the world. For this reason, most students opt for a homestay or a shared accommodation option.
