Fleming College, also known as Sir Sanford Fleming College was named after Sanford Fleming, a famous engineer and inventor. Fleming College boasts more than one hundred programs from Arts to Health and Community Development. The campuses of the college are located in Peterborough, Cobourg, Lindsay and Haliburton, but all in the province of Ontario.

Programs

College offers programs on different levels: full-time, continuing education, apprenticeships and post-graduate programs. For example, the Cook Apprentice program is offered on two levels: basic and advanced. There are also Culinary Management and Culinary Skills programs for the ones who intend to connect their future with culinary art or desire to set up their own cafes or restaurants. As for the Cook Apprentice program, it’s a good start either for students who want to build their career in culinary and for the ones who are already working in the sphere but wish to hone their skills, getting an opportunity to get a promotion or a more prestigious job in the sphere. The program at College is part-time, which allows students to work simultaneously with studying thus implementing their newly acquired skills in practice. Both on the basic and advanced levels, students learn how to manage a kitchen, menu creation and the foundations of artisanal cookery such as making bacon themselves.

The Culinary Management program  leads to achieving a college diploma and lasts for four terms. Fleming College prepares the students who decided to take the program of Culinary Management for the future work as chefs, catered, kitchen and cafeteria managers, entrepreneurs and other positions in food supplying and catering companies. This program at Fleming College requires a minimum of 480 hours of work experience as a part of the field placement. The cost of the Culinary Management diploma program is around $9600 for a term. Fleming College students have a unique opportunity to transfer their credits to achieve a degree in George Brown College on the program of Bachelor of Commerce in Culinary Management or obtain a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Ontario Tech University.

Another program which is offered by College is Fish and Wildlife Technician with an optional cooperative education term. The program at  College lasts for four terms overall, each of which will cost about $8500 for international students. The program of Fleming College aims at instructing students on the subjects as Wildlife Observation Skills, Fisheries Management Concept, Forage Fish Collection, Freshwater Ecology, Animal Disease and Pathology and a number of others. There are two on campus living options offered by the College: the residence in Peterborough and in Lindsay. Both of the residences of the College are equipped with all the necessary for a comfortable living furniture and you can alway have support from the mentors working in the residences. A student may also choose whether they want to live in a mixed gender suite or with people of the same gender in a single sex suite. The rooms usually have private bathrooms and bedrooms, with a shared common room and a kitchen. Fleming College Residence provides students with the services of a special restaurant run by the students of Culinary Skills and Culinary Management program, where they practice their skills in the culinary arts and management skills. As for the cost of living in Fleming College Residence, it ranges from $7200 to $7700 per two semesters.

Future Prospects

After graduation from Fleming College, former students can apply for a Canadian special visa, functioning as permission for work for international students, or extend their study permit if they wish to continue their education in Canada.
