Since a considerable part of students at Georges Vanier Secondary School comes from other countries, the English Department has set up a comprehensive course in English as a Second Language with 5 levels of learning. The ESL program is founded on the notion that students' capacity to take their place in society as responsible and productive citizens is dependent on their ability to communicate effectively in English. The curriculum is intended to provide English language learners with the information and skills required to meet these objectives. Its goal is to assist students in becoming successful English language learners who can confidently integrate into mainstream courses, use English effectively to advocate for themselves in all aspects of their lives and make a smooth transfer to their chosen postsecondary destination. Having pretty much the same goal, the Literacy Department of Georges Vanier Secondary School incorporates a variety of courses to facilitate all students’ adaption to the learning process.
