ILAC
Today knowing the English language even on the intermediate level is of paramount importance if you wish to get a job at a prestigious company, work with international clients, get an access to the education in any country in the world or just travel to any foreign country without worrying about being lost in an unknown city. International Language Academy of Canada or ILAC is one of the most famous language schools for studying English for any of the enlisted purposes. Every teacher of ILAC has all the necessary certifications including TESOL, which is highly important for teaching English the most effective way.
Programs
ILAC has four programs for adults. The first one is the program of general English, in which students study the English language from the level of Beginner to the very Proficiency. Every level lasts for a month, while studying one level of the English language in any other language school in non-English speaking countries would last for half a year or even more. The effectiveness is gained through the most innovative methods of teaching English, one of them is called communicative method and ILAC teachers implement it throughout the classes. The name is quite self-explanatory - the more a student speaks, the faster they acquire the language, so the key for language acquisition is communication. A great advantage of the program of ILAC is that a teacher will not know students’ native languages, so they are compelled to explain things and talk only in English, with no choice of switching to their native language. Before being enrolled to the course, students take a test to determine their level of language knowledge and the ones who have the level below upper-intermediate need to take the course of general English first and the ones who have the higher levels can go on to study Advanced level course. Advanced levels include preparation for the Cambridge exams, IELTS and University pathway courses.
As for the University Pathway program of ILAC, this program allows a student to meet the language requirements of Canadian universities to be enrolled to the bachelor’s or master’s degree programs or to the programs where you can achieve diplomas and certificates via studying all the aspects of the English language, how to write academic essays, make presentations and even time management. To be eligible to the program of ILAC you need to have the pre-advanced level of English, students of the lower levels are to take a general English course first. After the successful completion of the course, ILAC helps a student to find the right university or college, fill an application form and undergo all the steps towards the enrollment to the desired education establishment. There are many universities which partner with ILAC. Such as Alexander Academy, Camosun College, Douglas College, North Island College, Yukon University, Bow Valley College, Concordia University of Edmonton and many more. Each of them have similar requirements for the English language, for example to be enrolled in the Columbia College in Vancouver a student needs to have a minimum of 6.5 in IELTS, the same with Langara College of Vancouver. All of the university partners accept the certificates obtained in ILAC.
IELTS is an exam whose results are recognized by most of the universities in the world, when it comes to the assessment of the English language knowledge. ILAC helps students to achieve high results in the exams, because the condition to be enrolled to the IELTS preparation course is to have the level of pre-advanced and higher, so during the course a student will get acquainted the the structure of the exam, learn the tips, discuss moot points and how to deal with them.
After getting a certificate from ILAC, a student may decide to go to Douglas College. One of the requirements is to provide the certificate of the completion of level sixteen of the Academic pathway in ILAC. Among many other options, a student can choose to apply for the Bachelor’s programs on Accounting, Criminology, Sport Science, Social work, Psychology or Marketing.
To apply for the Fraser International College in Burnaby demands students to have the IELTS score of six, as far as the English language requirements are concerned. Here students may study Health Science, Engineering, Environment, Business Administration and Computer Science. The college also has a program of transferring students to Simon Fraser University.
Make sure you meet other requirements, besides from the language ones, to be eligible to apply for the universities programs.
Accommodation
While studying in ILAC, students need to live somewhere comfortable and favorable for an educational atmosphere. ILAC offers several accommodation options. The first one is homestay. This is a great opportunity to achieve the desired results in the English language faster, as a student will always be surrounded by the native English speakers, who will support them in their education journey. An international student will be provided with a private or shared bedroom, three meals a day and homely spirit. The homestay program costs $250 for a week, if a student wants to live in a private bedroom and if they are okay with sharing it with another student, the cost will be $25 less. This is a chance not only to enrich your knowledge, but also introduce Canadian people to the culture of your country.
If a student wishes to reside in the city of Toronto, ILAC has the comfortable Dream House Lakeshore, near Lake Ontario and about an hour away from the city centre. Toronto will appeal to every student who loves the vibrant atmosphere of the hustle of big cities, as it’s the most densely populated city in the whole country. Students who want to live in a private bedroom with a shared bathroom need to pay $300 per week. The students who value privacy and wish to stay alone as much time as possible will pay thirty dollars more for a private bedroom and semi-private washroom. Another option of living in Toronto, while studying in ILAC, is the Dream House which is located only half an hour away from ILAC itself. For a single room and shared bathroom a student needs to pay $400 for a week, if they want to have both the washroom and the bedroom for private use only, then they need to pay $480. In the very city centre, ILAC offers to live in the apartments which cost from $520 to $600, or if a student wants to share the apartment with another student, they will pay $430 each per week or $400 each, if they three students wish to live together in private bedrooms. Another option of residence in Toronto is also living in a private room, but in the same building where fitness, health and different lounge facilities are available to use by the residents. If it’s important for you to do sports every day, without leaving your house, then the last option will be suitable for you. It costs approximately $600 for a week.
Vancouver is another city where you can study in ILAC and here you may also live in several types of residences. For example, in Granville House, a student may live in a shared bedroom, also sharing the washing faculties, this will cost them $275 for a week and a hundred more for living in a private room. This is a chance for students to meet new friends and learn how to coexist in one space, developing their interpersonal skills.
If it’s easier for you to study and live on your own, there is another residence where a student can live in a private studio with a balcony, kitchen and lavatory. To get to the city centre, you will only need around fifteen minutes on a bicycle. This type of residence is a little more expensive - around $450 for a week.
If you study at ILAC in Vancouver and want to experience all the advantages of the downtown, so try another residence, which is located right in the city centre. For living in a private one bedroom apartment you will have to pay around $3110 for a month in the period from November to April and almost a half more for the period from May to October. Residents are free to use the gym, swimming pool and other facilities for leisure activities of the residence.
