Kitsilano Secondary School was created in 1917 and is named after Chief August Jack Khahtsahlano (a Musqueam First Nations chief). The facility the students presently call home, on the other hand, first opened its doors in 1927. The pupils picked royal blue and gold as the school colors after visiting Aberdeen University (one of their professors' alma mater); the first Latin classes chose "Fiat Lux" (Let there be light) as the school motto.
