International students

International students can be enrolled in one of the schools of Pembina Trails School Board.

International students, who were successfully enrolled to one of the schools of Pembina Trails School Division live with a homestay family. The homestay program is the most memorable experience a student can go through in their lives. The essence of the homestay program is that an international student moves in with a Canadian family, and they in turn teach them not only the language, but also culture, mentality and other unique features of Canada and Canadians a foreigner needs to know. It's especially important if a student is about to start their studies in Pembina Trails School Board, because it means that they will communicate with their peers and to do that, it’s important for a foreign student to have at least a general understanding of what Canada is about. Step by step an international student undergoes a process of socialization and adaptation to the new environment and the supporting host family has a great impact on the success of the processes. It’s important to mention that only the students from the age thirteen to the age seventeen are eligible for the homestay programs, the younger students should be living with their parents. One month before the arrival to Winnipeg, students receive the information about their future host family. For the ones who worry about the safety of host families: all of them undertake careful assessment procedures for the eligibility to become a host family. All of them are psychologically prepared to encounter different problems with a foreign student with decency and resolve them peacefully. International students and their host families can always contact their adviser in case of any misunderstandings.

Extracurricular activities can be taken by an International student beginning from the grade seven. Hockey games, traveling to Asessippi - which is the biggest resort of Manitoba dedicated to skiing - and many more are open to international students to participate in.
