Canadian College

Currently, the Canadian College uses the academic curriculum of another post-secondary academic institution for most of its programs, which is the St. Lawrence College of the province of Ontario. Thus, every student enrolled in one of the academic programs of the Canadian College will receive two diplomas: one from the Canadian College and another from the St.Lawrence.

Programs at the Canadian College

There are various programs offered at the Canadian College that lead to diplomas on the undergraduate level and certificates on the post-graduate level. International students can pick a program from the following fields: Information Technology; International Trades; Social Media; Project Management; Business; and Hospitality.

But to successfully comprehend the main academic program, international students need to obtain a high level of the English language. The Canadian College offers several language programs: for university; as a preparation for such examinations as IELTS or TOEFL; for work; and to acquire skills for everyday purposes. For example, the English for the University program can be taken from the beginner to the upper-advanced level, the completion of which will guarantee students the level equivalent to the Academic IELTS band score of more than 6.5. Students usually take twenty-eight lessons per week, and one level lasts for about eight weeks. The duration of the English for Everyday Purposes course is quite flexible and may last from twelve to forty-eight weeks.

Then, international students can go for a program in hospitality and choose to study a program that leads to a diploma, which is called Hospitality Management. To be eligible to study at the Canadian College, international students must have an IELTS band score of 5.0 overall or provide the college with other certificates confirming their proficiency in the English language. During their studies, students learn the following disciplines: Communications; Hospitality Today; Facility Management; Managing Beverage Service; Managing Service in Food and Beverage Operations; Hospitality Sales and Marketing; Convention Management; and a number of others. It includes co-op terms, which means that an international student can legally work in the field they study for twelve months while pursuing academic studies at the Canadian College. The job term doesn’t necessarily have to last for twelve months in a row, but a student can divide it into two parts and take theoretical studies at the Canadian College in the interval. The job students will have is paid, and the co-op term is conducted in an English speaking business environment.

By finishing the diploma program, students have a chance to study for a Bachelor of Tourism Management degree at the Capilano University for the next two years. It means that it would take a student just four years to earn both a diploma and a degree in Tourism Management thus gain profound knowledge in the field. Other programs of the Canadian College in the field of Hospitality include Hospitality Marketing and Sales; Hospitality Management; Hospitality Marketing and Sales; and International Hotel Management, all of which lead to a certificate. In the field of Social Media Marketing, the Canadian College offers international students the opportunity to study two programs, both leading to a diploma: Social Media Marketing and Social Media Marketing with a co-op. The last one lasts eight semesters plus a twelve-month co-op period. On the whole, the program of Social Media Marketing aims at teaching students all the peculiarities of conducting social media advertisement campaigns and even business laws. Among the disciplines that students learn are the following: Marketing on two levels; e-Commerce on two levels as well; Digital Marketing; Photoshop; Accounting; Budgeting and Scheduling; Risk Management; and a number of others.

The Canadian College allows students to take the Information Technology program with or without a co-op period. If a student chooses to take a program without co-op, then it would take only four semesters to achieve the Information Technology Diploma. Here, international students also learn such courses as e-Commerce, Operations Management, and Communications but together with them, they learn the disciplines essential for becoming an IT expert. These are Linux Fundamentals; Linux System Administrator; Managing and Maintaining MS Server; Media Planning Essentials; Digital Analysis; Social Media Business Simulator; and a number of others. International students who complete this program at the Canadian College can continue their studies at the Kwantlen Polytechnic University in the province of British Columbia. In the field of Business, the Canadian College can go for a diploma studying either Business Fundamentals or Business Management. It’s also possible to obtain a certificate by completing the programs of Business Management, International Business, and Business Administration.

The program of Business Administration, for example, will take a student a semester to finish, and the English requirements for a certificate program are the same as for a diploma program, which means that you need to have an IELTS band score of 5.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 45. In the course of studying, international students learn the following mandatory subjects: Accounting, Marketing, Business Math, and Communications. They must also select one of the elective courses, which include Business Computers, Speaking and Presenting, and Business Law.

The Canadian College has only one program in the field of Project Management. During the study period, international students learn Human Resources Management; Budgets and Scheduling; Leadership; Economics; Risk Management; Operations Management; and Small Business.

In the field of International Trade, students can earn a diploma studying International Trade with co-op terms and International Trade Intense Training, that lasts only for two semesters. Students can get a certificate in the program of the same name within four academic terms.

So the intensive program lasts for six months and prepares students to get the FITT Diploma in International Trade. Moreover, full-time international students of the Canadian College have a chance to work on campus during their studies. For instance, in the Canadian College library or as teacher assistants.

As for the tuition fee at the Canadian College, international students need to pay around CAD 32,550 per twenty-four months of studying towards a diploma in Hospitality. Other diploma programs will cost approximately the same.

Accommodation at the Canadian College

The Canadian College boasts its own residence in the centre of Vancouver, in an area filled with bars and restaurants and only a few minutes' walk from the main college campus. International students can choose between three types of rooms: private rooms, shared rooms, and studios. All of them are fully equipped and have WiFi and Netflix access.

The Canadian College also advises students to take part in a program called homestay. It was worked out for the reason that many international students come from abroad to study in Canada, and living as a part of a Canadian family turned out to be the best option to provide everyone with decent and comfortable accommodation. Within the program, foreign citizens have meals and enjoy weekends together with their host families. This helps them get through the initial stages of getting used to the new environment and culture. Moreover, Canadian family members help international students brush up on their speaking skills to facilitate their academic studies at the Canadian College. All the host families are monitored before and after a student moves in, so you don’t need to worry about a student’s safety. The cost of a homestay in Vancouver ranges from CAD 800 to CAD 1000 per month, and homestay agency service fees are to be paid on top of this.
