A high school, middle school, and primary school in Montreal, Quebec is called Kells Academy. All of the campuses are situated on De Maisonneuve West in Montréal, Quebec's Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood. From kindergarten to grade 12, the academy provides coed programs. The school was started in 1978 by Ms. Irene Woods and is currently run by Ms. Linda Leiberman. Enter a welcoming setting that promotes receptivity to education and life. Since the academy's founding in 1978, its board has understood that a one-size-fits-all method of instruction is ineffective. Programs in Kells Academy
Students at Kells Academy approach academics with a strong mentality and a can-do attitude. Trying to identify individual skill levels is the first step in determining what each student requires to learn confidently. This personalized approach ensures that each student has the best possible chance of success, leading to increased perseverance, tenacity, and self-esteem. Kells Academy students are active participants in the learning process, rather than passive observers. The curriculum at Kells Academy is supplemented by our ever-popular Flex option program, which motivated students to explore and develop new skills and talents through courses like coding, stop motion animation, yoga and meditation, chess, dance, and filmmaking. Kells places a high value on Physical Education, as well as Fine Arts and Music, with opportunities to learn both instrumental and vocal music. Environmental education is important to the academy, and the academy encourages our students to learn about sustainable development, energy conservation, and biodiversity. Kells Academy's collaboration with Oboot, an initiative founded by Kells students and their mothers, has provided students with the opportunity to meet and interview climate change changemakers.
While Kells Academy follows Quebec Ministry of Education guidelines, it provides programs with significantly more flexibility, beginning with identifying individual student skill levels. Individualized programs in classes help ensure that every student has the best chance of success. The ability to read a broad spectrum of literature and reply with critical thought, sensitivity, and maturity is emphasized in English studies. Students will learn to continue to innovate and effectively articulate their ideas while also improving the clarity, strength, and precision of their writing by analyzing a variety of genres.
Mathematics is also offered flexibly at the academy. By doing so, the board ensures that students perform within their abilities while remaining enthused and motivated while still being challenged. Each grade level allows students to select advanced, regular, or remedial programs, to progress at their own pace, and to upgrade their level where possible. Math and science classes are taught in English.
At each grade level, two or three French language programs are offered, enabling students to learn at their level. Programs encourage not only an understanding and appreciation of the language but also of the cultural beliefs of the society in which we live. Students may also choose to investigate other subject areas in French to broaden their experience. The French program at Academy teaches linguistic concepts while also encouraging appreciation and comprehension of the value systems of the society in which we exist.
Technology is embraced at Kells Academy as a powerful means of making lessons more enjoyable, fun, and relevant. Staff can better create customized and personalized learning with the help of technology. Even though nothing can replace the self-motivation and assistance that students receive from teaming up with their teacher, the academy views many technological aids as a powerful and innovative tool for assisting students in preparing for the future. Kells Academy is a proud regional leader in the integration of technology within the classroom, with all Kells Academy students having access to and using laptops and iPads in the classroom. Then instead of teaching computer skills in exclusion, the academy strives to integrate these technologies throughout our teaching programs, providing the students with the abilities they require to succeed in any field in our increasingly interdependent society. As a result, students consider conducting research and developing presentations, projects, blogs, and web pages, utilizing technology in a variety of ways.
Kells Academy students in every grade level receive dynamic guidance in a wide range of visual and performing arts, further enhancing their learning experience. By participating in or simply being exposed to the arts, they gain an understanding and appreciation for not only the art itself, but also harmonious relationship, elegance, and the many other features and concepts found within it. The visual arts program at Kells allows students to express their creativity via design and composition. Students create and present their portfolios regularly throughout the academic year, with initiatives over the past for works to be displayed across campus. The music program fosters gratitude while offering talented musicians a new venue for the performance. Throughout the year, students are invited to take part and perform in a variety of events, including the winter festival, spring concert, and, of course, graduation. Through performance, students in the drama program can advance and strengthen their sense of self. They gain poise, confidence, and a better capability to deal with life situations through presenting role-playing, and public speaking.
Athletic participation and competition are essential components of the Kells Academy experience, and all students are encouraged to participate through gym classes, sporting events, and competitive teams. The goal of the physical education program is to help all students improve their quality of life by encouraging active living, exposing them to a wide range of activities, and developing appropriate skills and attitudes. Intramural and Drop-in activities are also available throughout the school year for students seeking extra recreational time in a non-competitive setting. Various inter-school competitions, as well as outdoor recreation clubs and drop-in gym times, are arranged.
The Flex program supplements the school's extensive extracurricular offerings. This one-of-a-kind concept enables students of all levels to pursue their interests outside of the regular school curriculum. Students can choose from a variety of subjects ranging from the Art of Listening, Chess, Crochet & Knitting to Cinema & Film Studies, Pottery, Robotics, and Yoga. Flex is seen as a stimulating addition to the education curriculum and a great way for students and teachers to share their interests and passions. Students can learn alongside students of various ages because the program's courses are open to students of all grade levels. It also allows them to explore areas that may be foreign and challenging to them.
The Kells community welcomes international students. The welcoming school environment and comprehensive program promise to benefit all participants. Students who complete their educational journey at Kells are enthusiastic learners who are sufficiently prepared for their uni years and future. International students are interrogated upon arrival at Kells to determine their English proficiency. As part of the admissions process, they must demonstrate their English language proficiency by taking one of the following tests: TOEFL, IELTS, or CAEL. Kells Academy's ELL program offers specialized assistance to students whose mother tongue is not English. There are classes available for students in grades 7 through 11.
Accommodation in Kells Academy
Kells Academy residence provides elementary students with the convenience of being on campus while also being minutes away for high school students. Living at the International Residence connects students to a community in which they can form long-lasting friendships, explore the city, and gain a variety of academic and life skills. Weekend social activities include outings, arts, sports, and trips to local events. Students aged 12 to 18 are accommodated in a modern yet cozy environment at the Academy. It offers fully furnished suites, common laundry and lounge amenities, and a clean, safe, and smoke-free environment. In residence, up to 40 students are housed.
In addition, the homestay program is designed for students who are studying abroad and are separated from their families. It provides a safe living environment. Staying with a family provides students with a unique perspective on Canadian culture as well as an outstanding opportunity to practice linguistic skills. Students can choose between English and French-speaking families based on their needs. Kells Academy serves as an intermediary with the family, and a translator is provided when necessary. Homestay families are pretty much close to the school or only a short bus ride away.
Future Prospects after study in Kells Academy
Kells Academy is pleased to offer a one-of-a-kind Pre-University Grade 12 Program. The one-year academic program substitutes the two years of CEGEP necessary in Quebec and leads directly to a four-year university course. Kells Grade 12 students graduate completely ready and academically eligible for admission to any university in Quebec, Canada, or the world. Since the start of the Grade 12 program in 2017, Kells Academy graduates have gone on to pursue post-secondary education at prestigious universities such as Carleton, Concordia McMaster University, McGill, Ryerson, University of Toronto, and KU Leuven.
Additionally, students who have completed college or university will indeed be able to apply for a post-graduation work permit. This type of visa allows graduates to search for work in Canada and work for as long as three years before trying to apply for permanent residency status if that is what they want. Following that, a former student should apply for Canadian citizenship, allowing them to become a registered and proper member of this Canada.
