Mission Public Schools

The most westerly province of Canada is British Columbia. One of its shores is washed by the Pacific Ocean, on the other side there is the famous Rocky Mountains. There is also a city of Mission in the province, which was initially a small district municipality, but with the expansion of its territory and a number of adjacent rural areas included to its lands, it turned into a city. Mission Public Schools were established in the city of Mission for the general welfare of the local citizens, providing them with the finest education standards.

Programs

The administration of the Mission Public Schools appreciates the strive for education by all people, that’s why it allows everyone to have access to education beginning from the early development and elementary school level to the continuing education programs.

Modern citizens are beginning to understand that a child needs to attend special courses for their development from the very young age, that’s why Mission Public Schools offers preschool classes, programs for infants and toddlers where children are not only taken good care of, but also learn from professional caregivers different communicative and mental skills.

There are programs for elementary school students, where they can participate during their free time. When parents are busy with their job, it’s better to trust their child to the professional workers who will supervise children while they are having fun, enjoying their free time, doing arts and actively communicating with each other, enhancing their social skills.

Everyone knows that Canada is a bilingual country, which means that anglophone and francophone worlds are peacefully coexisting together. Such a convergence of two languages demands from the Canadian citizens to know them both or at least the basics of French if English is one’s native language and vice versa. In the Mission Public Schools you can find French Immersion courses offered at three levels: in the elementary school, in the middle and in the secondary schools. The first one begins in elementary school and lasts till graduation. Choosing the program allows a student to achieve an advanced level of the French language even if their parents are not French speakers. Knowing both English and French helps a student to find a job more easily and be introduced to both societies within Canada.

Intensive French courses are offered to the students at the grade six. The intensive courses are aimed at developing language skills for communicative purposes using innovative techniques of language acquisition. On the first step the focus is mainly put on the speaking skills, followed by writing and reading aspects.

The students who study in one of the Mission Public Schools in the grades from nine to eleven are provided with summer classes. It’s a wonderful opportunity offered by Mission Public Schools for the ones who fell behind in some classes or failed to complete a course during the academic year. There is another peculiar online program which is offered to the students who want to advance their knowledge on this or that course during the summer period. So not to lose time in summer and take a step further in their studies, the students of Mission Public Schools can enroll in this program. The program, though, can appear very strenuous for some of the students as one is required to complete the course within just a month, dedicating five hours every day to the studies.

Mission Public Schools cares not only about developing students’ academic skills but also about them learning about the environment, Canadian nature and their personal social skills. Through the programs of outdoor activities, students go hiking, puddle-jump, study about aboriginal herbs and the nature of Mission, wander around its forests and uplands. Outdoor classrooms of Mission Public Schools only contribute to the process of students’ interaction with nature, becoming more thoughtful and careful about the beauties it offers to human beings. Comprehending the fact that nature is alive and fragile through experiments and classes, students in the Mission Public Schools learn to become the true citizens of the 21st century.

Mission Public Schools have an alternative school, where middle and secondary school students study according to their own program, full-time or part-time, in groups varying in size or even one to one with a teacher.

The students who want to try themselves in carpentry, plumbing or electrical spheres can go for a special program, during which one learns all the basics of the professions. The aim of the program is for students to shape the image of their future work life and understand if it’s actually the path they want to pursue, by interacting with real workers.

Beginning from the grade ten a student of one of the Mission Public Schools can become an apprentice in trades, getting sixteen credits for their work and having a chance to receive a scholarship. Combining work and study may be challenging, but it’s a great chance to start your work path from the high school level, as an extensive work experience can become a vehicle for the advancement of your career in future.

Another thing that Mission Public Schools offer is the courses for adults who didn’t manage to graduate from high school or want to revise or advance their knowledge upon graduation in math, sciences, arts or languages for free. There is a separate list of courses for adults for which Mission Public Schools charge a fee.

If a student is considering furthering their education, there is a special program offered by a number of Canadian universities in which the students of Mission Public Schools have a chance to participate. The program is held in one of the summer months, when a high school student can get into the spirit of a university life, get to know more about the dormitories, campuses and just understand what being a university student is like.

After graduation from one of the Mission Public Schools, a student can apply to university, college or vocational courses, according to their purposes. Special supervisors can advise a student what to choose and what the next steps are to be taken. One of the options upon obtaining a high school diploma from one of the Mission Public Schools, is going to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver which is only an hour away from the city of Mission. This university has, among many others, the Faculties of Journalism, Education, Forestry and Schools of Nursing, Public Health, Economics, Music etc. For example, the School of Kinesiology offers to obtain a Bachelor’s of Kinesiology by studying anatomy, psychology, sociology and even biomechanics. During the studies, a student can serve as a volunteer, gaining work experience in the studied field.

Neuroscience can be studied on the graduate level in the Faculty of Medicine. Doing one’s Master’s or PhD implies their participation in the researches in Neurochemistry, Neuropharmacology and other related spheres. The aim of the graduate program is to prepare qualified scientists specializing in a minimum one area of neuroscience. The state-of-the-art equipment greatly facilitates the process and encourages aspiring scientists for the breakthroughs in their fields of study.

University of British Columbia offers international students to study if they meet a number of requirements pertaining to academic achievements and the English language comprehension.

An undergraduate Canadian student pays around $7000 for the first year of studying Applied Science, a bit more than $9000 for studying Design in Architecture and Urbanism.

An undergraduate international student pays around $55000 for the academic year of studying Applied Science, and around $43000 for studying Design in Architecture and Urbanism.
